This is quite true. Redeveloping and re-engineering the cities or towns to become more integrated such as pedestrian friendly and cyclist friendly does encourage people to want to stay within cities and not escape to their private domains in the suburbs. I do think that some people will always prefer suburbs but I think movements towards bringing these suburbs closer to town to shorten commutes and thereby reduce carbon emissions from cars and other vehicular traffic is the way forward.
